So among the things I've said I'd do this year, reading my Bible, praying, blogging, and keeping a food journal are daily activities. Sometimes I wish "watching TV" could be listed as a good thing that I "need" to do everyday! That would be an easy task for me. :)
Today, I did finish John and I read the first few chapters in Acts. As for praying, I spent some time thinking about things and I did pray that God would bless Nicky this week, as it's her final week of her freshman year in college and for her safe travels as she comes to see us next week.
But - back to the TV thing. I originally started this blog about TV with this question:
What did people do before TV? Was it all good things and TV really is the big bad evil? Were they really playing games, visiting family, or reading the Bible every night like "Little House on the Prairie" and "The Walton's" showed us for so many years? At least by the time The Walton's took place they showed them listening to the radio.
I enjoy TV. It by far takes up my most pass time. Especially now that I'm not volunteering anywhere. Although, I do read more now than I use too, and Dash hates it when I watch tv (or listen rather) while I read a book! :) I'm glad for modern technology that allows us to DVR things so tv shows don't dictate what we do when we do it. I can go out for a walk, or spend extra time at the dinner table with family. There's no hurry, it's DVRd!
Tonight, as I conclude my blog of random thoughts and information, I'm getting ready to watch our "super night" of TV. Tuesday is the one night we watch an excessive amount of tv. Some nights we don't have any shows, or maybe just one. But Tuesday - there is NCIS, LA, and Chicago Fire. I usually get to read extra too because Shield is on and Dash and little Dash watch that together.
Even as a person who enjoys my TV nights, I admit - 4 shows is excessive. Often on Tuesday I will watch NCIS, and maybe LA and then Dash watches Shield while I read and then I catch Fire on another night. On Monday - we skip TV completely (I DVR Castle) to play trivia at a local restaurant. Wednesday night Dash and I usually go out to eat while Little Dash goes to youth group. Thursday is cleaning day and talk to Nicky night. Friday is store run or store list night. I guess as I type this, I'm realizing that as much I feel we watch TV. We do a good job of consolidating the time -skipping all commercials- and we really don't schedule things around TV but the opposite, TV fills in gaps around the rest of life.
I'm still not sure that they weren't better off years ago when the only choice was go to bed or read by candle light. :) But at least we have running water and toilets that flush!

Honestly, I think people sang more, and read more. I think that's where a lot of the time went. I don't know if it's good or bad that things have changed. I've also heard that people didn't have as much spare time to fill.
