Day 169

We've been watching "Friends" with Chandler.  I'm not sure that this is a good thing?  There is basically sex in every show.  It seems to be the "theme" of Friends.  How I missed that all these years, I'm not sure, but when you go to watch something with your 15 yr. old son, you see it differently than when you're a 30 year old married woman just looking for 30 minutes of mind numbing laughs.  Chad is taking it as an opportunity to teach Chandler why sex outside of marriage is bad.  He said at least 5 times each episode he gets to say "see that is why you only have sex when you're married and with only your spouse."

An episode we watched tonight explained why the character Chandler feels compelled to use humor the way he does.  He talked about how his parents divorce effected him and the bad habits (smoking and stupid humor) became a part of his life at that time.

Afterwards our Chandler thanked us for not doing that to him or his life.  :)

I guess there are some "teachable" things from the show.  Good news is they never show people having sex and they typically are having complications or bad things happen because of bad choices they are making.  So, you see how it affects their relationships and their lives each time they make that choice and how it complicates things.

... I also get to say things like "and that's why sex in a public restroom is always a bad idea" or "that big day when you dress up with all your family and her family and stand in front of a church - that's pretty easy to remember ... And you'll never have any doubt about wether or not you were on a break ..."

Yeah, that's pretty much the theme. The break episode was rough on Golden.

It's probably best to be able to have a catalyst to be able to discuss sex. It's hard to know the wisest approach is.
