Day 3

I spent some time praying for Nicky this morning.  She had an interview for an internship that she really wants.  She was excited on how well the interview process went but when she called after it was completed she was angry/frustrated.  I was confused until I found out what happened.

This internship that  had pursued her for months now, after having her make a special trip into campus (45 min one way drive) told her before she left that they would expect her to only work the internship if she gets the offer.

She has arranged her schedule to accommodate this internship, she has talked to several people (including the woman who is now suggesting this will be an issue) and each time told them she intends to continue to work her campus job and the internship both.  The internship is only 15 hrs/week.  As she told the woman, she has rent, gas, groceries and oh yeah is paying for her college 100% on her own. She really wants this internship because it's close to home and would allow her to work in ministry.  This is something she has a heart for and it would also play to her strengths and allow her to quit her cashier job at the grocery store.

She was told that they'd have to think about it, because they really felt that it was too much for someone to take on.  Last summer Nicky was purposefully working two jobs to make money for school and the second job lowered her hours saying they didn't think she could handle it, without giving her a chance. So she picked up extra hours from others working, because they wouldn't officially schedule her.  I'm tired of people acting like what others use to do for years is impossible to do now.  I know everybody gets student loans and have parents that pay for their college and they mooch off the government and so no one expects this generation to actually work or accomplish, well anything.  If we "expect" something out of youth than WE have the issue, because we should automatically know that they can't do it.

Well, they can, we did and others did before us, it really makes me mad that my daughter has the ability to do this, that we've taught her how to be able to do this and no one seems to trust that.  Even people who have known her for months now.  They all but offered her this internship and now they are threatening to not give it to her if she works another job.

I believe that God can provide either with this internship or with another option for her, and I believe He will. I don't understand why people can't be more encouraging instead of discouraging for someone who is trying so hard and doing so well to accomplish their goals.  It just makes me angry that they keep underestimating her, I'd love to give them a piece of my mind, but sadly I've raised my children to defend themselves and to know that I won't interfere in their lives in that way, so this blog is getting my "momma bear" rant instead.  :)

My prayer for today - God please send someone to encourage Nicky, as she is doing an outstanding job in managing her time and her abilities.  I pray that you'll honor her hard work with a good paying job that provides for the things she needs and that is a good fit for her.  Either through this internship or another avenue.  Please help her continue to get scholarships that also help to provide for her financial needs and schooling.  Thank you for all the blessings you've already given her.  Show her your love and provide the much needed encouragement and support for her today.

Thank you.

I hope Nicky is able to get that position, so long as that is what God has for her.
