Transition

Dash promised to blog again once he got a job. I was waiting for him to do that--but since he didn't. He starts work on Monday. He will be a training manager for a communications company that has a contract with AT&T. So he'll mainly be working training AT&T customer service agents or overseeing others who train them as the case may be. The offer was officially made and accepted on Thursday of this week.

Now the real reason for my blog....

Because I have a full time job now and starting Monday Dash will too, this is new territory for us as a family. With the hours I've worked in the past the kids have never had to stay at home like this. Obviously they have stayed at home alone for a few years now when we go out or to the store or whatever. But not continuous everyday thing. Plus, I have always worked at least 10 hours less then dash so I had a few hours to come home, make dinner and clean stuff up etc. It's going to be an adjustment for us all. I know dash and I are both happy to have the jobs we have and I know the kids are fine and ready to be at home, it's just a new chapter in our lives.

We sat down with the kids today to talk about a plan for dinners and who would cook what and when. We're all taking one night a week for dinner, we got to pick what we were fixing! Monday Nicky's fixing pasta. Tuesday dash is fixing pork chops and veggies. Wednesday (I stay in town...dash eats on his way home) Chan will fix hotdogs for he and Nicky. I was going to fix a homemade chiken noodle soup on Thursday, but I am leaning towards enchalada's or hamburgers. Dash will have only a short time to eat before going to his Thursday night Bible study. (I forgot to get some of the soup ingredients.) We have decided that Fridays will be nights we have a chicken and veggie meal--thanks to the local grocery store, they have yummy chicken (from what I hear.) If not I can always grab KFC on my way home!

I'm just excited that the kids can participate and like the idea of coming up with a meal a week. That way no one person (ME) is feeling guilty or too tired to care what we eat or when we eat! I don't know if this is something that will work for us in the long run, but if it does, that would be pretty cool! :) By the way, Nicky picked cheese filled tortellini for dash and I with a tomato alfredo sauce and speghetti for she and chan, with garlic bread and salad! I can't wait for Monday! :) Also, Chan just started this past week the cooking merit in Rangers, so it will be cool to see how he transitions from hotdogs to foiled dinners, maybe! :) I can always hope! :)

It may sound kind of hokey, but I am ecstatic to hear that Dash got that job. It sounds perfect for him. I couldn't understand why that company was dragging their feet.

I am sure it will take some getting used to with both of you working so much. That sounds like a good plan to make sure one person doesn't get burned out on the meals.

Congrats to Dash on the new job! This will be new territory for all of you as a family with two full-time working parents. You have a good plan in place it seems. Nicky is very responsible and I am sure everything will work out fine. : )

Another congrats from me on Dash's new job. I hope it works out. It's tough sometimes being two parent working family, but your kids are pretty responsible. It will take a little getting used to.

Congrats on the job, Dash! When both parents work, it takes teamwork, but everything works out. It can be stressful, but you have two somewhat grown kids to help, you'll do great. We have too little kids and it's rough at times. Sitter problems are our worst problem these days though. I hope my kids help me cook someday.
