5 vs 50

In OP we lived within 5 miles of everything we could ever want--except Dash's job (which never seemed to count!) :) Our church, the kids school, my job, even the stores we went too--all right there. I'd come home from work with the intention of going back out. Many times I did. I'd stop and shop for an hour or two before getting home.... not a big deal. I'd go home, pick up the kids and we'd go back out. We'd be home for an hour or so and decide "Let's go out to eat!" And be back home in an hour with full tummies. (Thanks to Dos!)

I grew up on a farm. One thing I liked was the feeling that I was from "Indiana" not a city. When I was growing up we had a 50 mile radius easy that was our center of the world. I was thinking about this tonight. My kids will probalby always have the same view. Nicky stated the other day with Dash working in Terre Haute she now has 3 homes! Linton (where I work and we go to church,) Terre Haute (Dash's city of employment) and Clay City. When I stated that wasn't really true she argued for Linton stating "It is my home town too.) But really Terre Haute is 20 miles away. Linton is 18. My parents live 15 miles from us, my sister about the same. My brother also 15 miles away ---all in slightly different locations. To round out the circle our property/new farm and cows in Bloomfield are 25 miles away. We have a solid 20 mile radius at least. This spring and summer our radius will grow as we travel to state parks again for regular hikes and picnics. I love being from "Indiana" again!

It's a little weird adjusting to the lifestyle change of not just jumping in the car and being at Dos Realas in 5 minutes! :) But that's probably isn't hurting us any! :)

I didn't know you were such Dos Realos fans?
It's hard for me to relate to small town living, since I have only lived in larger cities where the nearest restaurant and drugstore were 2 minutes away. I have often said that I couldn't be my sister, who lives in Rantoul, Ks. She is at least 20 minutes away from civilization.

I've never lived in a small town either or had a large living radius. I can see it's attraction for some people.

We're within five miles of everything, but we don't really go anywhere. :)

I grew up in rural areas, but I am not a country/small town person. I am not a city person either. Don't know what that makes me.

I am glad to hear you're all enjoying life in Indiana.

Yeah, glad you love being from Indiana again.

Like Dust, I'm not really a city or country person. I guess that makes us suburb people.:) I did enjoy the country when I lived there.

I am certainly glad you enjoy it! I personally couldn't live it....I hated the 15 miles from Eagle River, Alaska into "town" of Anchorage! That 30 minute drive (speed limit was only 50 then) took forever as a kid! :)

Nowadays, if it's not within a 5-12 mile radius...then we don't go...I don't budget for gas more than that distance! LOL =D
