6 to 8 weeks....HA. I called Goodyear today because I got an add encouraging me to buy tires and get a cash card. Well, I already bought the tires in August. I sent off for the cash card and the paperwork said to allow 6 to 8 weeks for delivery. This is actually the 8th week. I called and they said your paperwork was processed on Oct. 6th so you still have a few weeks before you'll get it. Now I know some of you are thinking why does this matter? Who counts on these programs anyway? Well, even though I don't count on that money, it's an $80 cash card none the less and I would like to know why Good Year thinks that it's okay to market 6 to 8 weeks delivery and then tell you and here's the quote...I'm not kidding....
"Mam, you aren't the ONLY person sending in for this. We had 32,000 replies it's takes time to process that many replies." I wish I could convey attitude in my blog, the best way I know to convey it is to have you picture some 20 something chewing gum, twisting her hair, leaning back in her chair looking at you blankly and then saying "duuuuuhhh." Put that attitude with the afore mentioned words and you'd get what I was dealing with today when I made my inquiry call.
The thing that bothers me more then not getting the card until "sometime in November" is that they put on their stuff allow 6 to 8 weeks for delivery and then when you call they try to twist it around to 6 to 8 weeks after they process it. In the mean time they are running the promotion again before they have all the others processed from the previous promotion! AHHHH. Poor schmucks like me will continue to buy the tires, and wait for the card. I don't count on rebates, I don't even look for stuff like this usually. BUT $80 is worth remembering. I think I'd prefer them telling me when I buy the tires...and in print...allow 4 months for processing and delivery and then call us, if you haven't forgotten and we'll see what we can do! :) I really don't like people or companies setting false expectations.

What is a consumer to do? This is so frustrating. I hate mail-in rebates for this reason.
The perfect response, of course, is, "If it is so darn hard to process 32,000 rebates, why don't you just give an $80 discount at the register?"
Dust stole my point!
Can you imagine how many dollars are being wasted in man hours AND the toll-free calls to "check on these cards" vs. if they just gave you the $80 "instant rebate" at the purchase time of the tires.
They may actually gain more customers if their ad campaign was focused on immediate reward! (but who am I...just another one of those smart-quipped Marketing Majors from a small midwest college...LOL!!!!)
Sounds frustrating! Good point Jadee and Dust.
I thought of this too, but I am not sure that it's not a joint promotion. One where Visa or Citigroup or Providian pay for some of the 80$ in order to send you extra stuff from the cash card promotion. Not to mention that it's a Visa cash card that is used like a debit card. So, even though I too thought...why don't they just give us the money up front...I think there is more to it for the company then meets the eye. Plus think of all the people who don't call and check on it or never get it or don't use it within a certain amount of time and lose it...they end up not losing their full amount of cash back when you add all that up.
Is it bad that the whole time I'm reading this ..... I'm thinking, "whoo hoo.... $80!" I'm one of those people that forget this kind of stuff. I would never remember to fill out the rebate forms for the cell phones if T didn't.
So I get the card right?!?!?
Uh....let's think about this one dash...
nope! :)
LOL
I'm sure you will benefit, just like I will and the kids too for that matter. You can do a lot with 80$. We could buy a movie or a cd. Go out to eat a couple of times or FINALLY go to Cheesecake factory. We could buy some books. We could fill up 1 to two tanks of gas, depending on the prices. Pizza, I think that would make about 4 orders aproximately--or at least 3 1/2. You and N want a guitar...hmmmm....I'm thinking that new cookware that's like rubber but you can bake with it!
The good news is, since you'll forget the 80$ between now and then, I can pretty much allocate it where ever I want you'll be happy hunky dorey with whatever you get.
Shoes! Think of the shoes we could get! N and Cman want new boots...$45 a piece....hmmmmm
Do I hear Rebok for my baby....daddy needs new tennies! :)
I'm gettiny a little goofy now, so I'm gonna close this comment. Goodnight and Good morning to you all! :)
Maybe they make enough interest to pay the employees to process and make money too. Those kind of things eat time, but I'm a sucker for a little extra money somehow. I'd stay on it too.
