Worth the wait?

I am pretty particular about having to wait on vehicle stuff, so I am not sure that it is worth the wait. But we have found some good deals at our local GoodYear dealer so I have gone back and back again. I recently caved and got their GoodYear store card. They offer deals with being GoodYear member that are worth it. 90 days same as cash, 6 months same as cash, oil changes for life at $16.95. We actually got a card there about a year ago that was after 4 oil changes the 5th is free. So our next oil change will be free, which is cool.

I like that they do a free VMI (vehicle maintenance inspection) because they check your hoses, brakes, belts and let you know how they all are while doing the oil change. YES, they get a sale if you need new ones, but yesterday was the first time I took my van in there since we bought it. They did the VMI and said you can tell the belts and hoses are new so they are fine, your brake pads are 40 to 45% and explained how they got that (new ones are typically at 12 mine are at 5 right now.) They recommend that I have the VMI done every time I come in for the oil change to keep an eye on the brake pads and said that when they get to 2 is when the recommend you changing them.

I grew up on a farm. My dad rotated his own tires and changed his own brake pads. I remember him even doing that for an aunt of mine before. So, It's not like I don't know that these things need to be done, but when you aren't the one doing it, for me it's more difficult to remember. But I am getting much better and at taking care of things before they get too bad. I told my mom the other day, I'm 33 and still learning, but there's hope because I am STILL learning! :) Signing up online for an email reminder on when I need to have my tires rotated should also help! I could just do like the guy behind the counter suggested and remember every other oil change I need them to rotate the tires. But I'd rather have an email! I have a lot of other stuff to remember! :)

So I guess for us, the longer oil changes are worth the wait, even though I'd rather not have to wait. Until they really mess something up GoodYear has my business. (I really hope that they don't mess anything up....That would be bad on so many levels.)

I think Golden's car needs new brakes, but we haven't gotten around to changing them.

I just got off a 4-day vehicle inspection/maintenance binge with a Toyota Van. Involved two trips to Toyota dealership to order a part and pick it up, 2 trips to the inspection station to get the sticker, numerous commands given to me in Spanish by uniformed inspectors, two hot afternoons laying on back in the office driveway putting wires back into the transmission and a mild rebuke from my Jefe for not filling out the mileage log during all of this. WooHoo!

An email reminder sounds like a good idea. I just always randomly ran into these things. They suggest something "extra" at an oil change and sometimes I'd bite and sometimes not depending on my money and mood. Probably not the best system.
