I've taken on another part-time job. I am an independent contractor for a National Teleservices company. Basically I am an order taker. Ever see those infomercials on TV? Well, guess what I am now one of the "operators standing by." My goal is to only do this a few hours a week to just bring in a little cash on the side. I'm still in the process of deciding if I'm really going to do this or not, I am going to give it a month or so and after a couple paychecks if I still feel it's worth it then I do.
All that is said to mention this.
Have you ever called into an 800# for a product that you saw on TV. You think you want the product and then they start in on "today only....blah blah blah." This is called an upsell. There are different kinds of upsells. But the companies goal for a contractor is to hit 15% on their upsells. It just strikes me that if that is the goal, how low that seems. That must mean that I am not the only person who says no. I mean, how many times can you say no in one call? I have found that some products have more upsells then others. I personally, even though the call doesn't take as long prefer the calls where the person is calling for a product that is information only. Those are short and sweet! If I could just get a hundred of those! But I guess since I get paid for my talk time, I shouldn't complain about an extra 4 minutes of scripting!
It's nice to know that the company knows the answer is almost always no. I guess if they want to pay me extra knowing that then I'm okay saying "would you like me to add that to your order today?!"

I wondered when the "job" would find its way into our blog world! LOL! Again, its great to be working with you again...LOL!!!
You'll have to let us know what you think about that job in a few weeks. Try talking real slow. That'll increase your minutes. :)
Every time I called SBC for anything they introduced an upsell.
Me: "I'd like to shut off my service."
Other Person: "Before I do that would you like to buy a new SBC phone?"
I know their told to do that, but I wonder what their target was.
*Blushes*
Did I just replace "They're" with "Their"?
I hate when I call a number and there is a foreigner on the line. Did I just call a US company? Then why am I ringing India? You may be upselling but you speak English and you're based in the US. It will be interesting to see what you think in a few weeks.
