275-Not exactly what they were expecting

Cman and N have switched rooms. This is a momentous occasion because in the 4 years that we have lived here Cman has never had any other room. He has asked and each time he has been told no. There was a very logical reason to that answer. I let the kids pick out their paint and their borders when I painted the house when we moved in. Cman picked blue with fish. N picked lavender with fairies that reminded her of angels. I have had no desire to repaint, so each time N switched rooms or we changed things up a bit, he watched while his room remained the same.

This past weekend on Friday and Saturday I took down the fish and fairies and started to paint. I went to the store (without the kids). I had decided to buy dark blue paint. While at the store I decided that I did not like the blue paints. So I found a taupe color. I called the house and told the kids the plan had changed. Because I am one for shortcuts, I decided not to prime the walls. That meant that the taupe would be a slightly different color in each room since one was blue and one was purple. I began painting in Cman's room. It was not what he had expected. It was actually kind of green. He decided that he still liked it and I told him that was good since it's what he got! :) We went to town and he picked out new valences and to make the room complete in few weeks he'll have a planet bed set that glows in the dark.

N has curtains (that had been in the family room.) They are the same color as her wall. She did not have a closet door so I bought her a blue jean panel curtain and a shower curtain rod to hold it. So that became her closet door. She will have a new quilt in a few weeks that is white with tiny flowers in it's pattern that have the dark blue and the green from the walls. Also with the transition I gave up my office desk. N needs more room to work on her homework so I gave it to her.

I think even though their rooms aren't their creations they seem to still like what they have. At least I hope they do. Cman liked picking out his valences. He is shopping for a good lamp now. He is planning on buying it with his birthday money in August! I am glad that their rooms look nice and well put together. I hope that as time progresses that they will take better care of them now then they have in the past. I know I can get a little mileage out of "I painted for you, you should respect me and keep your room clean" for a few more days! :)

I should point out that they didn't pick the paint, but they did pick out the new covers and the new window treatments, with some guidance. So the rooms are not 100% me either, although I would have loved to have had either of these rooms growing up! :)

I was a little nervous about the denim closet door thing - but it looks excellent. As always, I had little to nothing to do with actually getting any of the decorating done.... and as always, T did a great job.

Next will be a family room makeover - saddly it will not include a wall mounted flat panel TV.

I remember as a child that it was always exciting when I would get to redo my bedroom. I went through a lot of comforters.

Glad they both like their new bedrooms.

she already changed her mind! She went from the quilt to a new comforter set that included a bed skirt and sheets.

Hmmm... I think we need to start using gender neutral colors just in case.

I like the idea of painting (we are all white right now) but not the work of actually doing it. Sounds fun though!!
