The Fourth

Tomorrow night (Saturday) we will be at a lake with friends and assuming that it doesn't rain we will see fireworks. I don't know if my kids have ever seen fireworks on the fourth. I think we may go try to see them at Corporate Woods this year? But growing up the fourth was one of my favorite days of the year. It was my holiday. We got the fun of going to the county fair, walking around eating cotton candy and elephant ears. We'd ride a few rides and end up in the bleachers or on the grass next to the tank at the armory on a blanket watching the sky light up.

The sky didn't light up after a Friday night game. It didn't light up at Christmas. It didn't light up on TV. It was a magical moment that you could only get in quality at a few places and you would drive awhile to get there and you would walk a while from your car to the festivities. You would wait a while for the wonder to begin and you would wait even longer to be able to drive home behind car after car filled with people who had done exactly what you had done. In Indiana I almost always took a jacket with me because once the sun went down and you got on a ride you would get chilly. I had a great pink jacket that just barely came to my waist with a flap on the right side I also chewed gum, wore cute shorts with flats (not sandals) and I often had my hair back in a braid of some sort that stretched down my back or for a while my trademark braid that laid to the side. Really if you think Vanessa on the Cosby show you will see many outfits that I either wore or had something VERY similar!

I got sidetracked...sorry....

Anyway, the fourth will always be probably my all time favorite fun day of the year. I don't know if I really looked at it like a holiday as more of a day to do a lot of great stuff. The fourth RULES! :) Like Totally! Am I right, or what? Like, you know what I mean dudes?!

Okay, yet another trip down memory lane! :)

I am not sure we are as successful in making the fourth rule for the kids. We often have good intentions, maybe as they get older it will be easier to do. It seems like it is. But they aren't as into the fireworks as their dad and I are, so I guess they'll find thier own day to love as they get older.

The fourth of July was my favorite holiday for a while because I was usually with cousins and it was July (the best month of the year). Now that I usually have to work the next day it is less exciting. :)

The way things are working out this year, we could be watching the Corporate Woods fireworks as well... from the delivery room in the hospital.

Have a great time! Fireworks are much more enjoyable when you aren't in a big crowd of people. "Firefall" in Spfld has its pros and cons.

I prefer shooting off my own fireworks. That is what we did growing up because we lived outside the city limits and it was legal.
