Kudos to the boys in khaki

The Royal Rangers were camping this weekend at our park! They had the group campsite while we had our private site (that myself and the kids put together without dash--tent included.)

The nice thing about the rangers being "next door" was they did ALL the cooking! We ate hotdogs, breakfast casserole, and foil dinners and the boys earned badges while we ate the benefits of it!

As to the weather....(I hear some people might have enjoyed the thought of us getting wet...So here's that story.)

Did we get wet? Yes, some of us did. There was a small thunderstorm front that went through. It didn't last long but it did rain hard for a little while. While the dash and cman were tucked away in the van "headed to the showers". The N and I were in the tent. I believe I said "man the hatches/button the hooks" at least once! N and I had a fun time scurrying with our system. She was stuffing our big sleepingbagged air mattress with their sleeping bags and pillows and whatever else I shoved at her to keep in there to save it from the rain that was blowing in under our rain-fly and into our tent while I pulled down the middle divider and grabbed a poncho to cover the bed and us! We jumped on the bed and reclined back against the pile that had been shoved to the bottom of the bag and covered up with plastic! While I found out later that I was more cozy then she, we sang songs and laughed and talked about how she had prepared herself for this very thing!

Apparently since she was "very little" she has played a game where she's in a flood and she's taking care of the animals. Using her bed and all her stuffed animals she would pile them and herself on the bed and she would keep them safe from the rain. I am glad, because her skills came in handy last night!

We had fun, the guys came back and we wiped the tent off, fixed the beds, everyone showered and then we went to sleep in a quasi wet, yet just the perfect temperature :) tent! :)

The camp rangers keep the campers informed of tornado warnings and watches, since we knew we weren't in danger of that, the rain was a fun and welcomed event!

I'm sure this is where dash would like me to point out that:
The rains came down and the fire stayed lit. The rains came down and the fire stayed lit. The rains came down and the fire stayed lit there were coals still glowing as we slept!

The weekend campout was great (both the Royal Ranger part and the family camping). As for the fire .... forever to be known as:

"The Fire The 30-Minute Storm Couldn't Quench"

I can't take all the credit for it. C-man provided all the great tinder and sticks that kept the core fire buring.

It was kind of fun telling the rangers (as they were trying to figure out how to set up their tents)that if they wanted to see a model campsite, they should have a look at the one "the girls" had set up down the road.

T got it all done before we got there ... and even lit a fire while she was waiting for me to get back from the council fire service.

C-man got to come over to the camp for some of the big-guy time. He was the official marshmallow stick provider - which made him very popular.

N "sang" all 11 verses of the statment of faith while we were waiting for the storm to blow in. She also managed not to scratch off any of the scrapes and scratches from her recent bike wreck.

Sounds like you all can even handle the worst weather well. I would've spent the night in the car.

Kudos to the girls too! I bet that is going to be a campout that you'll never forget! Sounds fun!

Yes, our thoughts were with you as we kept warm and dry at the Ramada in Topeka. : )

I forgot you guys went camping with the rangers. Sounds like a good time.

When we went camping with Dash last year, he made us call him Commander the whole time. He even put on his uniform and made us sing love songs from the '80's. I wanna know what love is...

When you say your Park, you are not refering to your backyard are you? :)
