Well, today my mom is at the doctor. Actually she is there right now. She is getting a second opinion. After months now of tests and medicine her doctors have said that the procedure for the V-tach is what they are going to do. They have scheduled it for next Friday.
This is the procedure that they wouldn't do because of the risk with her blockage. The medicine she's on isn't working. I've heard of people getting second opinions, but I have never witnessed someone actually doing it before. I am not sure what the outcome will be? I guess there is the chance that this doctor would want to try some new medicine instead of the procedure, or think she's worse and have her go in for the procedure before Friday. There are also some tests that the other doctors never took that they are going to ask this doctor about.
I don't think I would get a second opinion, I'd probably just blindly trust the doctor I was with and hope he picked the right avenue of help. I guess that makes it a very good thing that my sisters are around to encourage my parents to look into this further. I am sure the fact that her doctor wouldn't listen to her yesterday and kind of bullied her with what would be the next thing -- the procedure -- helped my parents feel that having a second opinion was a good idea.
Anyway, we're back to the waiting game. Let's wait and see what this doctor says and assuming he says, yes to the procedure I figure next weekend I'll be in Indiana. If not, we'll just have to wait and see.

I think I would totally get a second opinion....especially if I lived in a rural area. I presume that the city doctors would have more up to date equipment and more knowledge of medicines.
Of course, one can never know when they will have an allergic reaction to a medicine...like penicillin!
I do know that had I been in the local St. Charles hospital, I would have died. I know that being in the larger Trauma I hospital with ALL the department head doctors working on my case is why I came through alive.
Ultimately, it was your prayers and everyone else's that gave my body the strength to begin to heal since I was so very sick for so long. Thankfully, without the removal of a kidney.
The moral of the lesson that I learned was to pay attention to MY BODY. If I am in pain...that is my body trying to tell me something is wrong.
I am still praying for your mom to pay more attention as well....but I think since she did pay attention on Sunday and that her doctot dismissed it...is reason enough for a second opinion!
I am glad they are there and I am praying too!
Actually mom's doctors think that she's more sensitive to her body then most people! I've been told that by doctors as well. We seem to know what's going on more acutely then the average person (according to the doctors.)
As for big city verses small town doctor, it was her rural doctor that encouraged her to get a second opinion in Indianapolis. The specialist she's seeing she was happy with, but she was put out with him not listening to her yesterday. As she also said though, they were busy and he already knew what his next plan of action was so what happened on Sunday was according to him, because the medicine is not working.
I am not defending him, but stating what mom said. I think that it's good she get another opinion, I just know I am all too often for the quick fix and what will put me out the least. Doctor's appointments are my least favorite thing to go to.
It is probably a good thing that she is getting a second opinion. I have never done that before either. I hope this will give her a peace of mind on what is the right course of action.
She is brave! I hope all goes well.
