Hymns and Memories!

While I was home, my sister gave me my favorite hymnal that my mom had given to her (even though I asked for it:)!) I had tried to get it from T for years and she wouldn't give it up. I guess she figured that she has enough other hymnals that she'd give it to me after all. Or, I caught her in an especially giving mode?!

I loved singing with my family. Because my mom is and was worship leader/piano player and learned everything by ear we did a lot of singing growing up. Tonight I had Cman dig out my trumpet and I played several of the hymns while he played makeshift drums on the walls, doors and bed frame! He and N took turns trying to get sound out of the Trumpet too! I stopped once in a while to sing the hymns for them. It's sad that they really don't know any of them. Well, a couple, but that's not many! N loves Amazing Grace so I played that for her.

They both told me I sing beautifully! Cman was sweet and asked me why I played trumpet growing up instead of singing! Wonder what he really meant by that?!? I told him that I actually did both growing up. They wanted to know when, how old I was, etc. They both at different times said they think I should still sing..."Been there, done that" isn't an answer they are very happy with, go figure!?

I don't mean to toot my own horn here! I really am just average at best, but it's nice to know that my kids enjoy listening to me sing, since now that I have my hymnal, I will being doing that a lot more!

One of my favorite albums (yes of all time) is the Second Chapter of Act's Hymns album. Matthew Ward singing Fairest Lord Jesus and How Great Thou Art was awesome.

Just don't stand in front of me in church if we sing those - I try to sing Matthew's part. Not exactly a "Beaautiful Sound"

OH yeah...I forgot about Second Chapter of Acts! I LOVED THEM!

Also, Neale & Webb have a great Hymn's album too.

BTW, T, I really need to find a hymnal too for my bookcase. See if your sis has another one to share...lol! I think I sang almost every song in the book. Even learned how to pound out a few songs on the piano! (without chords, of course)

I am so thrilled to read this post and that your kids want you to sing more often!

Hymns are very comforting - neat to share that with your family!

It is cool that you are sharing the hymns with your kids.

I have fond memories of my mother singing and playing the piano. I am not as good as my mom singing, but I usually sing the hymns she always used to sing when I am in the shower.
