Most of the people reading this already know that Sunday was a special day at our church. We had the children in the second service with us and took communion as a family. We were recognizing the kids and the church's focus on the next generation because of the newest building project we are working on.
So, Mr. T and I had the kids in service with us. When we got home we were talking about the service and my oldest child commented on the fact that our pastor mentioned only having two minutes to give his sermon and how that was impossible. Without a blink of an eye, my son who is 5 said "no it's not." I looked at him and I said "So, can you give a two minute sermon?" Now, as a mom, I am figuring I've got him now. He'll back down and realize he doesn't know what he's talking about. Wrong! His reply was "yes" to which I replied "Go!"
He looked at me with his big doe eyes knowing he had his mom right where he wanted her and said "God loves you. and hum, God loves you. (thinking he said) And my name is Chandler!"
In less than two minutes he summed up the essence of most sermons! However, as a teachable moment I felt compelled to say how great it was, but most pastors try to say more than just God loves you when they preach! He just shrugged, like I guess if they feel they must!
The thing I learned from this is how we can sometimes lose sight of the thing that matters most. We as adults get caught up in the hows and whys of it all. We get so busy digging deeper that the one thing that is the essence of Christianity we take for granit. God loves us.
I think it's great to be well versed. I think it's great to know more than this. But more than not when the stuff really hits the fan, and our faith is really being tested, We have to be able to accept God loves us and trust that-- at that moment, that's everything. This weekend remember God Loves you!

Uh-oh! You and I must have had the same devotional today. Remembering to keep it simple and not complicated. Yes, it is about Love and Grace. God loves us so much that He gives us His grace to come forward to the cross and accept His love. (oops...that just got complicated!) Okay, just two things: Unconditional Love and Unending Grace. Nah...CMan is right: God loves US!
It is times like this when you realize how much fluff is in a sermon. Sure stories are great illustrations, but you can loose sight of the point of the sermon. If a pastor can preach a sermon in 2-5 minutes, why doesn't he/she always do that?
I really like that my church doesn't stretch the services out. It's simple, straight-forward, and to the point. All in an hour, too!! =D
