Most people who know me know that I like to take the teachable moments with my children. Last night and today, both my kids had the opportunity to take a couple moments with me.
The first one was Chandler. I read the introduction and first chapter of Billy Grahm's autobiography out loud to him last night. I mentioned that if I read it all to him, it would be two firsts for me. The first time I read a book that had over 700 pages to it and the first time I read out loud like that. He said, I think we should keep reading it. It will help you grow in reading and reading out loud and that's good for you!
The second one was Nicky. She had something she wanted me to address with her and she kept pushing me to talk to her about it in front of her friend. I told her that made me uncomfortable, but she kept saying...just go ahead. Other parents yell at their kids in front of their friends, in fact, you are the only one who doesn't.
I didn't yell at her, because I didn't need too. I addressed the concern and we were fine. I did tell her that it was good to know that about other parents. Growing up if I had a friend over (which was only about 6 times total) I got in trouble, so I have tried to not do that with Nicky. I don't think I need to go nutso on her, but it's good to know that if I need to address an issue, she is okay with me doing that and that her friends probably are too.
Well, 37 and still learning. It's nice to know my kids are able to share with me and that I can learn from them too. They're pretty cool kids.

It's good to occasionally be on the receiving end of a teachable moment.
