OkayI admit it....

maybe the "we need to do" really is more of a "honey do" list!

So in a previous blog I spoke about all the stuff that needs to be done to our house. It will be 100 years old next year and the carpet in it is probably 1/2 the age of the house.

So we have a nice long list of things that have to be done to the house. Some are more cosmetic than others. After a long talk yesterday Dash and I decided to start our long term project. We ordered wood blinds for our living room (they'll be here in about 3 weeks.)

Today we ripped up the carpet in the living room. We've decided to tackle one room at a time, and while Nicky's room needs more relevant things done to it (insulation and new windows) we aren't confident in our abilities to do those so we'll look into getting more professional help with that later this fall (we hope.) Anyway--one room at a time is what we had decided.

So today while I fixed chili Chad and the kids emptied the living room. Then he cut the carpet down the middle and he proceeded to pull it up and roll it up. Then we (mostly--he) took up the foam padding that was more of a crumbled thick layer of dust then a foam pad. Once we finished that he took up the tack boards and he and the kids pulled the staples up and nailed down loose nails (almost all the staples, he found one tonight with his foot--ouch.) We went to town and bought an area rug and once we got it home we decided that it really was more of what we wanted for the dining room then the living room. Also the area we are wanting to cover in the living room isn't that large, so it's now in the dining room and we still need to get an area rug for the living room. We also brought home paint swatches and will mostly likely start painting the living room in the next week or so. We are going to paint the dining room and living room the same color but accent differently so it won't be identical. There is dark trim in the living room we decided to keep it that way and white trim in the dining room and we again decided to keep that too, so that will make a difference.

It's so amazing to have the awful carpet up. I don't mind the floor not being perfect or the big square in the middle that the last owner decided didn't need stain! :) It has a couple small holes, but actually the living room floor ended up being a lot better than we expected. We can let it go without having to put work into it right now and get by with the are rug. The dining room carpet appears to be glued on, so that will not go as smoothly I fear.

Dash is putting the tv together now, all the wires and stuff that goes with the game cube, tv, and dish...

I'm sitting here blogging! :) He works hard for us to have nice stuff, I appreciate that. I probably should go see if I can help with the window film. We bought a nice privacy film to go on our front door so we can take the old icky shear off it. YAY!!!!!! :) I think when we get done with the living room I'll be pretty happy with it all. We are trying to decorate with an old fashioned meets modern accent kind of combo to hold to the age of the house and some of the unique features it has. It's work, but fun.

On a funny note, Chandler said today---so labor day is a day that they give you to do "real" work! :) LOL That was a fun one to hear Chad explain! :) LOL

"...crumbled thick layer of dust..."

Yeah, I've been having days like that lately. :)

I have to hand it to Dash. That's a lot to tackle over Labor Day.

I am sure N will appreciate the insulation and window work when that happens.

I remember BB and I redoing things in our house in KC. It was always a huge headache, whatever we were doing. I hope everything looks nice.

We recently had our floor redone. My dad said that he would help me with it, but never did. I got tired of waiting and just called a professional to do it. It was a little expensive, but worth it.

You summed it up when you said, "It's work, but fun." I wish Dust saw it as fun. : ) I have a huge honey do list as well. Good luck on your future projects.
