Today we had a game day. We haven't had a Saturday "Family Game Day" in a while. We've played some games with the kids. But today we spent over 7 hours playing Games they picked out! We sat at the table, ate homemade Chicken Noodle Soup. Then Little smokies and crackers later. It's was just a hang out--play and have fun day!
We played Mah Jong, all four rounds. That took a while. That was the game Nicky picked. Then Chandler picked Clue. He decided we should play it four times since we played four rounds of Mah Jong! We ended up playing 3 games of clue. Now they are watching ROCKY with Dash. I decided that I'd pass on the Rocky movie and I've taken that time to play a computer game, catch up on blogs, and chat with friends. It's been a nice day.
N had kind of a "right of passage" moment today. I was starting to fix the soup and dash wanted me to put all the chicken in it. I decided if that was the case I needed more broth. N quickly volunteered to go to the store for me! With a few quick, well thought out words, she had the approval of mom and dad. She took off with her backpack on her back and rode a mile up to the IGA, got the cans of broth and came back! Now she's trying to figure out how she can do this ALL the time! I figure we'll take ONE DAY at a time on that! :)

In a few more years she can start driving to the store. My kids are still a little young for a lot of games. Woogy and I will play Candy Land, Chutes and Ladders, and Sorry.
Wow, it's hard to believe N is old enough to go places by herself now. Back in our day, we biked up to the store at age 8 or 9 by ourselves, but things have changed. Nibbles likes to eat the pieces from the games Woogy and BB play.
Seven hours of games sounds awesome (do people still use that word?). I can't wait until NJ can do a game day with us. Of course, that may be a while.
I almost forgot the bicycle element of small-town life. You can get almost anywhere on two wheels. I was almost as mobile as my parents when I was N's age in a small town.
