Cow girl! :)

Today I helped my dad load up some more cows. They were easier to load then the group from last week. We also repaired his fence line. I thought that would take a lot more time then it actually did. I used a post digger for the first time and tightened up some wires for him. I carried posts and was the go to gal.

I shared with my dad some memories today. Apparently since I haven't lived at home for 15 years he had forgotten some stuff that I did with or for him as a kid. :) I use to go to the sale barn with him. We went there more with the pigs then we did the cows. I mentioned the memories I have of the dust flying around and the stupid goats and junk always going first! It was alway hot and crouded. There were bleachers, not like the nice ones in gyms but wood box bleachers. We usually got a hotdog and soda while we were there too!

I fed the pigs, which meant I carried two 5 gallon buckets full of feed to the trough. He didn't have his water system set up like he does now, so I also carried water that way, back and forth with the 5 gallon buckets! I also spent a lot of time with the cows when my mom and brother were not home yet (he went to school where she worked so they were gone till 5 or later every night.) I was the only one home, I'd get off the bus with cows out and herd them back in.

I have always loved the smell of cows more the pigs. I like the smell of horses too. Cows though have always been my favorite. I had a pet cow once. She was a Jersey cow, her name was Jenny. My brother and I use to climb our fence and hop on her back and try to ride her! We had a pet pig once. Harriette. She was a runt and it was winter so we took her in to our garage. After a few weeks we had to put her back out and she died because she couldn't handle the cold. My mom buried her. That pig was the only pet that ever got buried while I lived there, they may have buried a dog since then?

I loved growing up on a farm and the work that went with it. Even though fence work is not my favorite, it's the bulk of what you do and it wasn't too bad today. It didn't take as long as I thought it would, which is nice! :) Today dad called me a cow girl! :) AHHHH :)

Wah-Wah's sister lives on a farm, and I don't know if I could ever get fond of the smell--especially her pigs.

T, I am glad that moving out there has given you so much joy and fulfillment. I know mucking out cows and pigs isn't fun, but you really seem to like helping out since it is bringing back so many fond memories of your childhood.

I have no fond memories of my childhood really. If someone brought me somewhere where I remembered growing up, I'd leave immediately. You are blessed!!

Yeah, I think women remember things like that better than men do.

My dad used to always tell me that he ate several of his pets, because his pets were cows and pigs.

I don't care for the farm smells, either, BB.
