Freedom Writers

We just watched the "Freedom Writers." I want my kids to watch it too. It's a very good movie depicting inner city gang struggles and correlating it to the Holocaust. We've watched "Paper Clips" with the kids about the Holocaust this summer. I think this would be an excellent follow up for giving them more insight into what kind of struggles some kids have out there, even now in the United States and serve as a reminder that life isn't the same for everyone. I think I would like to get the book that these kids wrote also, I have a feeling that it has details that the movie might leave out, since the movie focuses more on the program and only shares glimpses of the kids stories as insight to what she had to over come as their teacher.

I haven't seen that one yet.

I remember being blown away by how depressed some areas of Chicago were when we visited five years ago. I can't imagine being a kid growing up in the inner city.

I haven't heard of or seen the movie, but it sounds interesting. I remember reading the cross and the switchblade years and years ago. David Wilkerson's trip from farmer's pastor to innercity minister was eye-opening.

Sounds very educational-which is good for the kids and adults too!
