I am trying to teach my children about common sense. I'm trying to teach them why they should not have to have my brain tell their brain EVERYTHING to do, but that their brain should be able now to figure some "common" things out on it's own. I was explaining this to them tonight while we talked and sharing with them some examples.
For example: If you get up and the dishwasher is running then your brain should tell you that you know how to shut the water off and disconnect it when it's done and you should do that. If there is trash that needs to be taken out then your brain should tell you that you should take it out.
N is 12 and is confident that she's capable and in many ways, she is. I pointed out that she would be more capable if I didn't have to leave a detailed list for her of things to do, every morning. I pointed out that because she is 12 she was the one I was looking at and having more expectation of and who had the most responsibility. Cman took the opportunity to say "yes--common sense--since you're older and taller and know more, that's why."
I guess he got my point on what common sense was! :) I hope he uses it for more then just pointing out when he should not have to do something! LOL :)

There's nothing common about common sense. :)
I had roommates with no common sense to take out the trash, dishes, or anything for that matter.
sometimes laziness trumps common sense : )
So if the old adage "Cleanliness is next to godliness" ...then what is "common sense next to?"..."logic"?
I know everyone says that no one is "normal"...but I always tend to think of "normal" as "having common sense"...so maybe they are right...no one else is "normal"...JUST ME!!! (hee hee)
