Not approved

N had a sleepover this weekend. One of her friends brought a Madonna CD. I don't know what songs were on it. She brought it to us to see if they could listen to it. I handed it to dash (he's the music guy) and said, "Can they listen to this?" I have heard that Madonna isn't to the extreme she was when I was a kid, so maybe this is an okay album? Dash opened it up and said, I don't think so. I said "really? Okay" He then told me to look at the inside cover. Instead of words to songs it was a photo spread of her in various positions.

I don't understand. If you are a famous singer, shouldn't your songs sell themselves? Must we be 50 and still trying to pose like playgirl? Then there's the other question, maybe the poses do represent the songs? That can't be good for 11 year old girls to mimic.

Her friend told her mom as soon as she got there that "yeah we had fun, but my CD wasn't parent approved." The mom just looked at her and then she said it again a few more times and ended with "That's okay, I know if the parents don't approve then we can't listen to it."

I'm glad that her parents have taught her that and that she respected us, I wonder if she thought her mom would defend it for her? Oh well, all in all--I think that they had a good time listening to the other Cd's and doing slumber party stuff.

On a different note, I was shocked to find Cman playing with them Saturday morning. The girls both told me that N has the best brother and that he's cool. I'm glad that he respected them enough that all the girls (including N) was willing to share some of their time with him too. I was proud of the girls for that, I can't say that I would have been that kind to my brother.

I was like C-man in the respect that I talked/played with my siblings friends when they were over. My brother's friends were usually nice to me. I dated one of them. : )

I don't think Madonna ever actually sold music. Wasn't she always just kind of a novelty act? :)

Glad that N has friends that can respect her parents.

Any CD fold-out that you have to hold sideways is not a good thing. Kudos to LegoMaster (who is "Drew?")

I wasn't that nice to my brother either. Sounds like the beginning of teen pressures are starting - music etc.

Hilarious! I logged in through my Elevate username. I didn't even realize it.
