Scarecrow writer

I apparently have the heart of a writer, but I definitely do not have the brains for writing. I don't have good grammar skills. I can't spell. I am not creative or imanginative. I lack in almost every aspect that a writer needs.

For some reason when I take tests I am consistently told I should be an author or a counselor. When I was a kid and even as an adult I've often thought how I would love to be a writer, but I know I don't have what it takes. I think I've always known it. I use to try to write as a kid, but I could never get even a full chapter out. I could never connect enough information to make a good story. I am not able to develop a character. Get inside it and really relay that to the audience.

I wrote several poems as a child. I thought I could do that until someone who knew more about literature than I did came a long and explained that's not really what I did. It was just a bunch of words, but not in true poetic forms. Oh well. I guess I'm a scarecrow writer. A wanna be without the brain.

I recently took an aptitude test - and guess what writer wasn't on my list. That was discouraging for me. All that to say, people can learn to write and the more you use your "creativivity" the bigger it grows. On the flip side, it's a lot of work and if you don't have the stomach for it, why not just enjoy the things you do like?

Some types of writing don't require perfect grammar skills if you have a good editor. I at least hope so, since I would like to try my hand at writing some day. :)

I have been told before that what I write is prose rather than peotry as well because my meter isn't perfect. For literature snobs it may matter, but I am more forgiving in what I consider poetry.

I was the jerk that told T that her poetry wasn't poetry .. just because it didn't match my sense of verse. Having seen and heard some of the crap that others have actually been paid to write ... makes me think I was the one that had it wrong.

wouldn't be the first time.

Did I say snob? :)

Officially, I have found it hard to write true poetry. Prose has been significantly easier.

I think with anything creative - writing, poetry, drawing, painting - part of it is skill that comes with loads of practice.

The other part is shear genius...

...or sheer genius.

Sorry, I was in an architectural mindset.

Just write from the heart and like Dust said that is what an editor is for. Everyone gave good advice--keep practicing.

That is why you need to hire ME to be your EDITOR! I have newspaper experience from college too! =)
