I was leaving my house for Overland Park Regional to part with Grover, my gone bad gall bladder. I gave the kids hugs and kisses and we were off.

Our plan was to go to the hospital, have me in surgery at 10 and sometime after that (you know with observation time) I'd be home. We were thinking hopefully before 6, but if not 9 after dash and the kids were finished with their awards ceremony.

When we got there at 8 I had to take a pregnancy test to confirm that I am not pregnant. The doofus that took my blood stuck me twice, once in my elbow, for effect he moved the needle around a lot before pulling it out and sticking my hand. Which only too one stick but burned really bad. I left him in a really bad mood and griped at dash a lot about him. He said "did you tell him you were aggravated?" I said, "no, I didn't want to get stuck 20 times instead of 2!"

We got back to the surgical waiting area and I was called back rather quickly. My doctor was early and eager to start. They had me prepped and ready to meet with him by a little after 9. Dash came back just in time to hear what he had to say and then Pastor Phil showed up! (I was not expecting company! :) ) I get funny in these kinds of moments--I say weird things. So when the nurse asked if I had any metal implanted in me I responded with "not that I know of!" Then when Phil showed up I said, "You get to see me at my best!" I've got one more, but I'll share it in a minute...

The surgical nurse came in and dash had just gotten set down and Phil had just gotten there and dash said "how soon will they take you back?" The nurse who had stood there a few minutes said, "we're ready now!" So Phil and Dash prayed for me and off I went! They wheeled me around the corners and into a colder room where I appreciated the extra blanket. I was told that he (the surgical nurse) would put a warm blanket on me in the room, I assume he did, but I was asleep before I found that out! The next thing I know I am being woke up.

The nurse was was at least trying to wake me up! It took me a good 30 minutes to really wake up and I was of course still very tired. She said words I wasn't expecting and still didn't know exactly what they meant. "Do you want us to get you a room upstairs? Or would you like to go home?" I had assumed from everything I read that I would be kept at the hospital for a few hours after the surgery, she said since I was keeping the liquids down and my vitals were good I could go home to rest. I quickly answered, "I want to go home." While I was in that room, She was giving me pain medicine to help me. She said to not expect it to get any better then a 2 or 3 on a scale of 1 to 10. She was right. It didn't get better then that. The guy who put me out said, "how you feeling" when he came through. (he's my last quick witted response of the day) "I feel like I just went through surgery!" I was told that was the right answer! Not long after that I was well enough to be wheeled into another area.

I was there for about 20 minutes where the nurse who was signing me out went over things with dash. She also got to see me NOT keep liquids down. (I always get sick after anesthetics, so I was expecting that.) Once she felt I was okay to go home I was sent home. The kids had half a day of school, so they were home about 1/2 an hour to an hour before I got home. We called them from the car and had them make up the "mom bed" in the family room. I slept on the couch with my broken leg, so they had it set up perfectly for me. I made it inside laid down with my eyes closed heard "I got all A's on my report card mom" and dash reading the improvements on cmans card --all S and S+'s. They both got free meals to Applebees and they both got certificates with stickers marking their accomplishments for the year. I heard it all but was unable to respond until I woke up about 2 or 3 hours later. Then I picked up right where I left off!

Today, I'm awake before all of them. Sitting in the living room. I'm still sore, but not as sore as yesterday. Thanks to all of you who prayed with me and for me. I know I'm feeling better because of all the prayers. I am just going to keep trusting that every day will be better and better. I've been told this was not a big deal by a lot of people who have had the surgery. I have to admit yesterday when I felt so bad, I sat at the table and said "I wish I had kept it in." I felt pretty crappy. But today, is a new day and I am hopeful that with each day I know I'll feel better and better and I'm guessing that in a week I'll be glad that I had it done. I just didn't anticipate how bad I would feel after it. But I guess there are something that are not worth anticipating!

Wow. Glad you got to go home earlier than you had thought and there were no complications. Take it easy today. : )

It's good to hear you made it through safely. At this rate, by tomorrow you'll be running marathons. :)

Good job. Going to the hospital is always scarry, but you feel victorious when you come out alive.
