There are times when not living near family really stinks. Memorial Day is one of those times for me. My family likes to try to get together 1 time each summer/fall for a big cook out. They start trying this at Memorial Day, then fourth of July and then Labor day--if they haven't been successful by then, they usually try again the next year.
This year everybody but me will be there this weekend. The whole crew. They are going to have fun and I'm going to be here in KC not with them. It bums me out. I really had planned when we moved away to make it back every summer for the group get together. But between our life schedules here and Tammy's in GA we just haven't been able to do that like I thought we would.
I'm glad for Verizon! We manage to stay close via the cell phones! But it's still not the same as being there to throw water on someone or chase a person down with ice in your hand. A couple years ago I believe we ended up in a spit/water fight. You just never know with us. When we get together we do spur of the moment stuff too. We went sledding one winter out of the blue. It's always fun to watch the inlaws stare in amazement and a lot of the time refuse to join in the fun. They just don't get how we can be sitting under a tree nice and quiet one moment and the next someone say "hey lets go for a hike" or "let's go get ice cream in Washington (a 40 minute drive) or when one person can pick up a cup of water and another person be wearing it the next moment! Sometimes that's a blessing --it can cool you down fast on a summer's day. Don't knock it till you've tried it! None of us kids are the type that would do any of those things with people we hadn't grown up with, but it's just different when it's family.
:( So tomorrow, I'll be wishing I was there, but by Monday I'll be glad that I didn't have to make the trip, so I guess there is a bright side to the cloud, be that as it may.

I understand. When you are away from family it can make holidays a little more of a drag. It's almost as bad as choosing who to visit when taking the time to go to family's on holidays.
We're getting ready for a big video shoot in Holland. I have lost track of the holidays. I guess we're getting our own "memorial day" a couple of weeks later when we return. I miss the national recognition of our U.S. holidays and family also. I've had a few spittin' water good times with my relatives! Oddly, what I miss most is walking up the street to visit you guys and throwing the bocci balls around on a Sunday evening!
It is hard being away from family. Hopefully, you can visit some family again this summer.
Dar, the bocci balls were thrown around at our house Sunday night. The mosquitos/bugs were bad and I think we lost interest with it rather early.
We had a good time with friends. There was no water fights! :) But still, it's always good to have people to share a holiday with be it friends or family.
