My dad took a job late last fall with a company that has him working out of state. Now, for a man who has spent over 40 years in construction and coming home every night to his farm to "work" more this was not an easy thing to do. He's always worked construction to support his farm habit. But he's a "do whatever it takes" person and this was an opportunity he couldn't pass up.
I have found that between his seeking out computer information/help and just more time on his hands in general that he is reconnecting with all of us kids. It's not that we didn't communicate. We are family big on communicating. But you just get a different side of him when he's well rested and not headed out the door to do one more thing at night. Plus, he's lonely, so he's calling all of us at least once a week to check up on us and see how we are doing.
I know that it's hard for my mom and my dad for him to not be home during the week, but I have to say getting to talk with him one on one (not on a speaker phone :)) is so refreshing. I feel that I am able to effectively share more of my life with him right now. That's pretty cool.

Well, you just about took my blog out of my mouth...lol!
I have enjoyed getting to reconnect with my younger sisters now that they are online. I have been in touch with my brother over the last couple of years.
Most of all, I am enjoying getting to know my dad for real now as an adult vs. when I was growing up.
I even got to talk to my little sister on the phone the other night!
The father/daughter relationship is a precious thing. Daddy's are cool! Glad you have more time with yours.
