By example

I am far from perfect. So when I do things that are less then perfect I take the opportunity to use it as a teaching tool. A prime example, dinner tonight. I was eating and did something that some (including myself) would consider rude. I said to my children "see you never want to eat that way, that would be rude! Aren't you glad you have a mom that will show you what NOT to do!?!" My son, the sly guy that he is said "yeah, I'm glad that you raise us to be good, because you were raised bad and want us better!"

Even now, I am laughing as I type this! I never gave thought to the fact that he might draw the conclusion that my folks did something wrong if I was so messed up! I take pride in raising my kids similarly to the way I was raised! I thought my folks did a fine job!:)

I had to laugh and tell him that I was most certainly raised to do a better job then I do, but as all grown-ups we have choices. That one day he will too and I hope that he will choose the wise one even if I don't always!

I guess I should either point out things I do right to him once in a while :) or not point out my faults so much, huh!? It's not like he won't figure it out on his own anyway!

Boy, and aren't they quick to let you know too! It's so funny when they use their table manners...and look at you to let you know that they did, "Mom, are you proud of me using my manners?" =D

(I made a new post!) I too have overcome the blame it on my parents thing. It is hard to be responsible for your own emotions...

Great traits to keep the parents on their toes, that is. :)
