We had a surprise visit last night. How cool is that? When I was growing up we use to get people who would just be out and about and they would stop by. That NEVER happens now. I got use to this happening again when I lived in Indiana. My sister would do this, so would my parents. So even though our dinner was late because we were visiting, it was fun to have someone stop by for a few minutes and stay a while. No one does that anymore either. Everyone is always so busy, they don't have time to sit and relax.
The other thing I noticed, since it was a surprise visit, I wasn't uptight about the office being a mess, the dishes from Sat. not being clean, or the trash that's in my kitchen because the dumpster's too full for us to take it out to it, because we forgot to sit it out last week for trash day. (Yes, we live in messes, especially after weekends like the one we just had.)

I got absolutely nothing done that I had planned to do. But hey ... for surprise company - I'll give up my to do list anytime.
I love surprise company. It gives me a reason to stop doing whatever I'm doing. :)
yup, unless someone surprises us tonight...dash is on dish duty!
Earlier this summer I was out riding my bike with goose in the trailer and I drove by your house to see if anybody was outside. I was to shy to knock, because you might have been eating dinner. But now that I know your stance on surprise visitors...
We use always walk by Darwin and Roamer's house to see if they were about. You could usually find Darwin sitting in out on the patio taking in the sun and reading a book.
My dad growing up (from a small town) said that after dinner his dad would load every one in the car and ask them who they would like to visit.
I think the idea of just showing up at someone's house to visit came from a time before so much entertainment when visiting on the spur of the moment wouldn't interrupt this week's Survivor episode.
I remember my mom telling me that her dad would get everyone in the car and they would visit people on Sunday afternoon.
It depends on who it is who shows up at my house on whether I would mind or not. I would prefer a 15-20 minute notice. Since close friends are more likely to drop by, I probably wouldn't care.
t, thanks for the comment on my site! I haven't seen you in like a hundred years...
I remember when you stopped by to bring me dinner while I was on bedrest and we chatted for a little while and that just made me feel so good!
P.S. watch out... you're kiddows will be all grown up before you know it too! scary.
In case anyone was keeping track, the dishes are now done.
Thank you dash, for doing that. I appreciate it.
golden, I admit a 10 minute heads up is nice, but if people are willing to stop by and don't care what kind of discovery they find, then I guess I'm learning to be okay with that too!
