No this isn't an XBox vs. Sega blog. This is a blog dedicated to C-man and N. We've been playing games with them lately as I have mentioned previously and I am amazed at how much of a game boy C is. He is really getting into it. This is helping N feel more like participating so we're having a lot of fun with the oldies but goodies like UNO and SkipBo. We've included a new game called Split and well, I am sure we'll just keep going from here on out. We have what we have been waiting for, the ability for all of us to play CARD GAMES! YAY. I might never have to be subjected to Life, Monopoly, or any other boring unchallenging, not the slightest bit strategic game again! Candy land so long Hello Bridge and Hand and Foot and Spades and Hearts and Pinocle and.....
Okay I'll stop with that, but let's just say it's a "Whole new world."
Tonight we started C on Mah Jong. How cool is this. We are going to learn different rules to play with the tiles. Tonight was basic, no point keeping, just whoever goes out wins. N took on title of "Queen of Mah Jong" winning 2 out of the 4 rounds. No one else went out the other two rounds!
It's so much fun to have the kids reaching an age where we can really include them in our game time. I wonder when we can introduce them to Bridge? I'd really like to learn the "real way" to play vs. the HoneyMoon version Mr. T and I play. I am sure we will just keep adding more and more games as mentioned above. The highlight of the night was when N got excited that they were going to get to stay up to play longer and said "We have such a cool family! I love my family" and "C chimed in with accolades." Well, that and our sing song sayings we came up with while announcing the tile being discarded. Mr. T wasn't into that so much so the kids and I had A LOT of fun with that for a while! :)
Kudo to C-man and N for liking and being good at games. I have a feeling that in a few years, I'll wish I hadn't encouraged them....since they'll probably be beating me and that's not so much fun! I guess I'll have to learn to play for fun vs. winning. Nah!

Board games were always important in my family. Be it slightly geeky or not, the biggest sibling rivalry in my family right now is in Boggle. My sister and I are pretty evenly matched, so whoever won the last match gets bragging rights till next game.
Personally, I think most board games sharpen the minds and lead kids to become more intelligent and thoughtful adults. That's just my opinion, though.
I played a lot of games as a child also. It was usually with my father and grandparents. My mother and brother got bored easily with them.
I was queen of Rack-o. Other games I liked were Mille Bornes, Raise the Roof, Mexican Train, and Water Works.
Rack-O is actually my next purchase to make. I loved that game as a kid. My gma had it! She had all the cool games.
I like card games much better then board games (obviously) but I also have Boggle on my list to get too.....right after Rack-O.
Just wait 'till they can watch PG-13 movies with you.
I usually don't have the competitive spirit with board/card games. Other people are way more into it than me. I enjoy heckling and socializing while I play.
Our big one was Scrabble...but I think that is because my mom always won that one. My sister and I really enjoyed Mille Bornes...quite surprised anyone else knew of that one. Of course, the absolute family favorites were Uno and Sorry, because they were the first one we could learn easily. In college, I got into Phase 10, which was absolutely hilarious when we played with friends' parents and grandma when the came to visit on a weekend! Back then we only drank Coke/Diet Coke and the sugar high caused uncontrollable laughter!! That was always a great time to get off campus for awhile too!
Does C-man do the Victory Dance? I am not allowed to at home - I get swatted. (Hard to do the victory dance while covering your behind with one hand....)
My all time favorite boardgame is Clue. When my family from all over the country somehow ends up in the same room together, this is the game that we all want to play. Of course my siblings and I all have our insider lingo and "mindreading" abilities which tend to frustrate any in-laws that dare get involved - adding to the fun.
You guys are great gamers. I love to play any games board or card, but seems my family and Dar are like, well...okay. They have fun once we get going but I feel like I'm dragging everyone into it. I'm a big scrabble fan. Had a game called Probe when I was a teen that we played a lot. You came up with a word, sort of hang man with points only everyone had a word. Loved it. If you could think of a word that had a weird combination of letters even when a couple were uncovered no one could figure it out.
