I recently heard this song, it was written for the broadway play "Beauty and the Beast". Since so many others like to quote songs, I figured I'd join you!
There's been a change in me
A kind of moving on
Though what I used to be
I still depend on
For now I realize
That good can come from bad
That may not make me wise
But oh it makes me glad
And I-- I never thought I'd leave behind
My childhood dreams
But I don't mind
For now I love the world I see
No change of heart a change in me
For in my dark despair
I slowly understood
My perfect world out there
Had disappeared for good
But in it's place I feel
A truer life begin And it's so good and real
It must come from within
And I-- I never thought I'd leave behind
My childhood dreams but I don't mind
I'm where and who I want to be
No change of heart
A change in me
No change of heart
A change in me
I think the reason it stood out to me is because I idealized a lot growing up. Now, after having lived a few years beyond childhood I do get to see how things work together and how there has been a change in me, a kind of moving on, though what I use to be I still depend on!

Ironic that you idealized the song. I don't see too much Idealism in the song. Though I see some of everything else. :)
Realistic
For now I realize
That good can come from bad
That may not make me wise
But oh it makes me glad
Optimistic
For now I love the world I see
No change of heart a change in me
Pessimistic
For in my dark despair
I slowly understood
My perfect world out there
Had disappeared for good
When I read, "I never thought I'd leave behind my childhood dreams" I immediately thought of how I wanted to work at A/G headquarters when I was young. Now, it is the last place I would want to work.
I know what you mean. I saw that too. What I meant by I idealized a lot growing up, was the "childhood dreams" part. For me they were my ideal life, and the change has been me seeing how to incorporate a realistic view of life with what I wanted to get what I have and that it's better than what I idealized in the first place because it is real.
oops I forgot my smileys! :)
T's choice in Disney music reflects that she is much more self-aware that I am. i'm still singing "Reflections"
Look at me,
You may think you see
Who I really am,
But you'll never know me.
Everyday,
it's as if I play
A part.
Now I see,
If I wear a mask,
I can fool the world,
but I cannot fool my heart.
Chorus:
Who is that girl I see?
Staring straight,
Back at me.
When will my reflection show
Who I am inside?
I am now,
In a world
Where I have to hide in my heart,
and what I believe in.
But somehow,
I will show the world what's inside my heart,
And be loved for who I am.
Who is that girl I see,
staring straight
back at me?
Why is my reflection someone I don't know?
Must I pretend that I'm
someone else
for all time.
When will my reflection show,
who I am inside?
There's a heart that must be free
to fly
That burns with a need to know
the reason why
Why must we all conceal
What we think
How we feel?
Must there be
a secret me
I'm forced to hide
I won't pretend that I'm
someone else
for all time.
When will my reflection show
who I am inside?
When will my reflection show
who I am inside?
She packed my bags last night pre-flight
Zero hour nine a.m.
And I’m gonna be high as a kite by then
I miss the earth so much I miss my wife
It’s lonely out in space
On such a timeless flight
And I think it’s gonna be a long long time
Till touch down brings me round again to find
I’m not the man they think I am at home
Oh no no no I’m a rocket man
Rocket man burning out his fuse up here alone
Mars ain’t the kind of place to raise your kids
In fact it’s cold as hell
And there’s no one there to raise them if you did
And all this science I don’t understand
It’s just my job five days a week
A rocket man, a rocket man
And I think it’s gonna be a long long time...
To Golden: Believe me...your childhood dream is better off left a dream...glad you figured that out. I did live the "dream" at one time...LOL!
A song that was a theme at one point in college, a friend brought back to my memory this week. Very appropriate at this time. It was a Billy Joel toon - these are the times to remember
though they will not last forever
(lyrics approximate here!)
It's a good sentiment.
