In my family there are a lot of different occupations (I come from a large family.) We have Superentendants of Commercial Construction sites, Bank tellers, Doctors, Paralegals, Entrepreneurs, Corporate Trainers, Nurse Clinicians, Med Lab Technicians, Pastors, Home Daycare owners, Office managers, Airline Employees, Sucessful sales professionals, Farmers, Truck Drivers, corporate managers, mail carriers, and factory workers, I could list more, but you get the picture. Lots of different jobs requiring different levels of education and experience and overall knowledge.
For me the occupation choice I have made is all about peace of mind and the energy I spend. I can focus on my families needs and be available to them instead of being distracted with the "to do" list I have for work. I also get to use my organizational skills in watching kids. You try having 5 kids at a lunch table all eating different foods and you are the one preparing it (they are all served at the same time, too!) Or keeping 2 year olds happy while you play a game with the 5 year olds. There is a skill that is required to make it work.
There are lots of reasons for people to choose to do what they do. I know that there are alot of different philosophies on this subject, but as I was baby-sitting today thinking of different jobs I have had, or careers I have been interested in, I realized, it's not a glorious job title--a lot of people just don't get a person choosing to watch children for a living. But it's full of it's own rewards, cherrished teachable moments where you get to make a difference in the life of a child and therefore the lives of that childs parents as well. Especially as I get older and realize that this isn't a job just for anyone that some people really wouldn't enjoy the noise, the runny noses, the constant chatter and the occasional tiff over a toy! But for me at this moment I can honestly say that at the end of the day I am happy with what I do.

People like you are a value beyond price! As a single-working-mom, it is peace of mind for me to have someone that "chooses" to take care of children. Thank you for following your heart!
You are definately good at what you do. Your well behaved children are an example of that. After teaching 15 3-5th graders on Wednesdays, I am about ready to have a nervous breakdown. I am not cut out for it. I wish all the girls were like your daughter.
I truly wasn't "fishing" for complements! But I do appreciate what both of you have to say. golden, I can honestly say that 3 -5 graders aren't an easy group, you'll notice I tend to stick with the younger ones! However, I know that my daughter appreciates you and all that you do in Stars. She also likes feeling connected to one of my friends in her own special way! I really do hope you realize that the age group you work with is a difficult group, I wouldn't do well in their either.
More power to you girlfriend! You have a gift I lack...and honestly I'm pretty content lacking it. What a bad person I am. But what a good thing that there are great people like you. Can I say, not just to get on the compliments wagon, you do have good kids, so really I don't mind picking one up today...despite my comments here. : )
You are special. I am not a 'kid' person and I thought that would change after having my own. I totally love my own kids, but I am still not an 'other kid's' person. I'm sorry, but I just can't get goo goo over other peoples little kids. Maybe it is a guy thing. Don't ask me to teach children's church. ;) We'll see what happens when they get older.
